The Medical Council of India (MCI) gives permission to additional 1,390 medical seats across the country in 32 government medical colleges.

Vijaya Nagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), Bellary gets 50 additional seats among which 43 seats will be given to students based on CET counseling and the remaining seats will be reserved for Central Quota.

At present 45,629 MBBS seats are available in India and with the latest addition of seats the number becomes 47,019.

While 45 colleges approached MCI for the approval of new additional seats, 32 colleges which are at least 10 years old were given permission believing that the decade old colleges might be possessing required infrastructure and faculty.

These colleges were also asked to increase the required infrastructure and faculty within one year if required.
